Break-in at Vineyards Co-op

The Police Forensic Unit were at the Vineyards Co-op this morning, following an overnight break-in. The store was closed "due to an unfortunate incident" according to signs on the store, which opened again in early afternoon after the forensic team had finished. Local rumours suggested that a member of staff had been injured but, as yet, there is no confirmation of this. Further news will follow as we get it.

New Date for Baddow Busgate Meeting

The meeting to protest about the proposed Bus Gate at the bottom of Baddow Road has now been rearranged for April 18th at Hamptons Sports and Leisure (formerly Marconi Club), Tydemans, Beehive Lane starting at 7.30pm.

The new venue can accommodate 500 people but seating will be on a first come basis. The last attempt to hold the meeting was abandoned after hundreds of people were left outside the original venue.

Baddow Races Entries Open

Entries are now being accepted for this year's Baddow Races to be held on 13th May, starting and finishing at the Recreation Ground. Details available at .

Loss of 41 Bus Route

First Bus announced its revised timetable for 2018 on Monday (15th). Among the changes affecting the village is the ending, on February 18th, of the No. 41 service between Melbourne Estate and Great Baddow. The section of the route between Galleywood and Chelmsford will be covered by a revised service 57 between Galleywood and Great Baddow and that section between Great Baddow and Chelmsford by the existing service 36.

The number 40 service which serves Hanningfield Road will also be revised.

Masked Raid at Meadgate News

2018 didn't get off to a good start for Kanagarajah Mathipalarajah, who recently took over Meadgate News in Meadgate Avenue. The owner was threatened with a kitchen knife and forced to hand over an amount of cash in excess of £200. The incident took place on Wednesday 10th January at around 7.30pm. The suspect, described as between 25-30 and about 5ft 6in tall, was wearing a balaclava. If you have any information please contact Chelmsford CID on 101 using reference 42/4770/18

Baddow Road BusGate Protest Meeting

Great Baddow East Neighbourhood Association has organised a meeting for Thursday 25th January at the Orchards in Mascalls Way to try to overturn the County Council's decision to proceed with the Bus Gate the lower Baddow Road junction with the Army & Navy roundabout at peak hours.

Concerned residents will be able to question the deputy leader of ECC, Kevin Bentley, and let him know of their objections and alternatives.
