"No News is Good News" - unless you are trying to put together a webpage on News. In which case a blank page looks a little bit funny.

Kings Head Conversion to Luxury Home

The Kings Head in Maldon Road, formerly the oldest pub in Great Baddow, is currently being transformed into a luxury holiday home. The conversion, by the company Essex Stays, will provide accommodation capable of sleeping 14 people, with a cinema den and spa. It will have 6 upstairs bedrooms and a huge living/dining area downstairs. The change of use was approved in August

Chelmsford Muslim Society buy Hamptons

The Parish Council this week announced that Hamptons Sports & Leisure (formerly Marconi Club) has been purchased by the Chelmsford Muslim Society for £2million. They will take it over on February 14th. It is expected that the club will continue to offer the same facilities as the previous owners with the exception of the bars. It will be known as Chelmsford Islamic and Community Centre. Some rooms will be used for daily prayers, with the main hall able to accommodate 500 worshippers at Eid. Ayman Syed, general secretary of the Society, commented that they are hoping to add a cafe and youth club and that all facilites will be open to the public.

A lively exchange of views about this could be heard in the Great Baddow Library at today's Council Surgery.

Services at URC to End

We understand that from July the United Reform Church will be stopping holding services in the Church (beside the Library). Apparently this is due to a dwindling congregation and lack of volunteers to hold key posts in the Church. The Parish Council has an agenda item about the future of the church for its meeting on 13th January.

Following the Council meeting, the Clerk wrote to the Eastern Synod of the URC requesting an urgent exploratory discussion. The Synod responded saying that they wouldn't be taking any decisions on the future of the building until the Church ceased operating as a Church in July.
