The four walking guides are designed to inform the walker about the geography of the village. In particular they describe the history of the buildings as they are passed on each route, pointing out details that may be missed by a casual glance. They contain ancient black and white and modern colour photographs of these buildings, and are sold through the local library, and from Allen Buckroyd, the author. They are gentle walks of about 1 mile each, starting from the centre of the village.
Allen has now kindly agreed to make these guides available freely to anyone interested in Great Baddow. The guides are hosted by the Baddow & Galleywood u3a, of which he is an enthusiatic and active member. u3a is an organisation for retired or semi-retired people who wish to enhance their retirement through social events, sporting groups, shared interests, speaker talks and self-education.
The four walking guides are entitled:
Walking Guide 1 - Church Street & West Hanningfield Road
Walking Guide 2 - High Street & Galleywood Road
Walking Guide 3 - Maldon Road & The Causeway
Walking Guide 4 - Baddow Road & Beehive Lane
Printed copies of the guides can be obtained from Great Baddow library, in Gt. Baddow High Street, price £2-50 plus post & package.
